How it Works

To add your driver’s license or state ID to
Apple Wallet, simply scan your physical card using your iPhone and then provide
a quick facial scan for added security. Once verified by the state, your
digital ID will be ready to use.

Limited Use Cases

While the digital ID is a groundbreaking
feature, it’s currently authorized for limited use cases. The California DMV
recommends carrying your physical ID as well until the technology becomes more
widely accepted.

TSA Checkpoints and Beyond

One of the most exciting aspects of this
pilot program is the ability to use your digital ID at select TSA checkpoints
at major California airports. This means no more fumbling for your physical
license or ID. Additionally, participating businesses and venues can also
accept Apple Wallet IDs as proof of identity and age.

Security and Privacy:

Apple prioritizes security and privacy. Your
digital ID is encrypted on your device, ensuring that your personal information
remains safe and inaccessible to unauthorized parties. Apple emphasizes that it
cannot access your ID data, and it’s only accessible when authorized using Face
ID or Touch ID.

California joins a growing list of states
that support Apple Wallet IDs. This technology is a testament to the ongoing
digital revolution and the innovative solutions being developed to enhance our
daily lives. By adopting Apple Wallet IDs, California is paving the way for a
more convenient and secure future.
